March is an outstanding month. It is the time of year when spring begins and winter ends. It is the only month with three consecutive consonants in its name in English. It is also the birth month of Dr Seuss! And, for those in the lower mainland, March is when we celebrate children’s literature at our annual Serendipity event.
Please join us!
Our Serendipity 2016: Home and Away speakers include the entertaining and talented M.T. Anderson, Maggie de Vries, Sarah Ellis, Gregory Maguire, Jean Little, Cynthia Nugent and Kit Pearson. These wonderful writers and illustrator will be talking about their work, their experiences in the publishing industry, and what the children’s literature trope “home and away” means to them.
This year we are holding Serendipity in the UBC Robson Square auditorium on Saturday, March 5.
Our Gala evening is a celebration of the career achievements of Professor Judith Saltman. Judi has probably spoken to every living Canadian children’s author in the country. She is a walking cornucopia of information and facts about children’s literature, and her contribution to it as a librarian, academic, and author is phenomenal.
Let’s share a meal together, salute Judi with a toast, and be entertained by our wonderful speakers at the University Golf Club Friday March 4.
As always, a big thank you to those who have already registered for these two events–we are looking forward to seeing you there!
