Our Keynote Speaker is award-winning, best-selling author Kenneth Oppel, among whose 17 books and adaptations are the renowned Silverwing trilogy, Airborn series, and most recently his Apprenticeship of Victor Frankenstein books. The first of these gothic thrillers was This Dark Endeavor. The second, Such Wicked Intent (Book Two), has just been published.Through his own books, Kenneth Oppel will be reminding us of the enduring appeal of Frankenstein, the novel, the character, works these have inspired, and their unique literary alchemy.

Following the keynote, learn from Lindsay Bromley and Alexis Birner about current research on using picturebooks in the classroom to promote critical literacy. And hear stellar VCLR book talkers give short, snappy accounts of the five “contenders” for this year’s Children’s Literature Roundtables of Canada Information Book Awards.

Plus we’ve reinvented speed dating . . . for book lovers!

Lunch will be enlivened by presenters from Children’s Writers and Illustrators of BC (CWILL BC) who will move from table to table, talking about their 2012 books with you and your tablemates for about 3 minutes each. Click here for links to their websites. Yes, it’s speed dating…you will fall in love with a book, of course!

Book sales by Kidsbooks, and book signings by Kenneth Oppel and our CWILL BC presenters.

So, jump on that early bird! Register now! Good times for the mind and spirit, and a delicious boxed lunch, too.
